Jiangnan University (simplified Chinese: 江南大学; traditional Chinese: 江南大學; pinyin: Jiāngnán Dàxué), JU, literally "Southern Yangtze University") is a university located in Wuxi, Jiangsu, China. It is a key national university of the “Project 211” and is directly under the Chinese Ministry of Education.^[1]. The distinguished disciplines are industrial design in school of design, food science and technology and fermentation engineering in School of biotechnology.

The root of Jiangnan University stretches back to San Jiang Normal School which was founded in Nanjing in 1902 which later renamed National Central University and Nanjing University. The private Jiangnan University, another source of JU, was founded in Wuxi in 1948 by Rong Desheng (the father of Rong Yiren), the largest national capitalist in the Republic of China era. Later during restructuring of higher education happened after the establishment of the People’s Republic of China, the engineering related departments of Nanjing University merged related departments of private Jiangnan University and several other universities and formed Nanjing Institute of Technology (later renamed Southeast University) in 1952, and in 1958, the related department of Nanjing Institute of Technology moved to Wuxi and established Wuxi College of Light Industry which was named university in 1995. In 2001, Jiangnan University was formed by the combination of Wuxi University of Light Industry, Jiangnan College and Wuxi Education College. The main campus was located at Heleikou, Wuxi.

The foreign students are enrolled into the School of Food Science and Technology, School of Design, School of Humanity (Eduation), School of Business and School of Biotechnology (Fermentation Engineering). More than 90% are currently in post graduate school and the balance are doing either undergraduate or Chinese language.

The foreign students are management by the School of International Education (SIE). SIE recruits and processes all the arrangement and also looks after the students welfare of the foreign students.
